Lighting up the Queensferry Crossing

For several weeks beforehand it was well known that the new Queensferry Crossing would be open to traffic on Wednesday 30 August. However what was not widely known outwith media circles was the pre- opening lighting ceremony held on the Monday evening of that week where Nicola Sturgeon Scottish First Minister formally switched on the bridge lighting. Both Stagecoach and Lothian Buses were asked to provide both vintage and modern buses to take part in a ceremonial crossing of the new bridge as part of the lighting up ceremony. Several old and new cars also took part. Just after dusk Nicola Sturgeon boarded Lothians Leyland PD3 ASC665B and together with Stagecoachs Leyland Royal Tiger BMS222 driven by Museum member Eddie Taylor they headed the convoy from the south approach to the centre of the bridge where the switch on took place.
